Master Kohga

Updated 2026-10-17· Patch 1.6.0Boss, Yiga

Master Kohga waits at the bottom of the Yiga Clan Hideout, at the end of Karusa Valley, during the quest that leads to Vah Naboris and the Thunder Helm. He does not fight like the Blademasters. He summons boulders. You answer with Magnesis.

Three phases, same rock

First he rolls a spiked boulder across the floor. It is metal. Lift it with Magnesis and drop it on him. When he sits in the roller and spins around the room, wait until he stops to taunt, then shoot him or catch him with another rock. Chasing the roller just gets you flattened.

Last he calls a boulder down from the ceiling. Magnesis works on that one too. Hold it over his head and release. He has a small health pool for a boss, so a few clean hits end it. Bring a metal weapon you can afford to have yanked around, and extra hearts, because the spikes still hurt if the rock clips you on the way.

The hideout before you reach him

The rooms above Kohga are the actual test. Footsoldiers patrol with sight cones. Bananas in a doorway pull them off the route. The Blademaster in the hall is the fight people wipe on, not Kohga. Sneak, or clear that hall, before you drop into the boss pit.

Beating him removes the leader and hands you the Thunder Helm quest's key step, but the footsoldiers on the overworld do not retire. They hold a grudge. After the fight, keep a banana anyway. Kohga himself does not return on a blood moon. The ambushes do.
