Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Surprises Square Enix with Strong Sales

In a remarkable departure from the norm, Square Enix has reported that its Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has exceeded sales expectations. While specific sales figures were not disclosed, the game's performance was cited as a contributing factor to an increase in sub-segment operating income.

This success stands in stark contrast to Square Enix's recent history of underperforming sales targets for titles such as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Final Fantasy 16, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel's Avengers.

Despite the positive sales performance of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, Square Enix has reported an overall decline in game sales and profits.

* Overall profit decreased by 7.7% to approximately $1.6 billion.
* Net sales decreased by 10.7% to approximately $1.05 billion.

This downward trend continues a pattern seen in May 2022 when Square Enix reported declining profits. With CEO Takashi Kiryu entering his third year in charge, it remains to be seen if the company can implement successful restructuring efforts to reverse the trend.
