Skin Deep: Space Piracy Prevention with a Twist

In the annals of futuristic adventures, space piracy poses a formidable threat. Fortunately, a revolutionary loss prevention system emerges to safeguard cautious travelers: Skin Deep.

As Nina Pasadena, a former assassin turned insurance commando, you awake from cryosleep on a starship. Your mission: to confront pirates if they dare to kidnap the crew.

Skin Deep transports you into an immersive FPS experience by Blendo Games, the masterminds behind Quadrilateral Cowboy and Gravity Bone. While drawing inspiration from classics like Deus Ex and Dishonored, Skin Deep injects a dash of humor and absurdity.

Toss banana peels to send enemies slipping, douse them with pepper to induce debilitating sneezes, and outsmart them with a variety of traps. The icing on the cake: you answer to a company run by anthropomorphic cats (after all, it is the future).

"We've infused this lighthearted game with a sincere and earnest tone," explains Brendan Chung, creative director of Blendo Games. "It's Die Hard with a comedic twist," adds Sanjay Madhav, programmer at Blendo Games.

Your adventure begins with a twist: cryotech has frozen you, but not your weapons. Thus, you'll have to adapt and arm yourself with whatever you can scavenge from the ship or seize from the pirates. A banana from the pantry can transform into a slippery hazard, while ragweed can stun opponents with sneezes. Of course, traditional firearms are also at your disposal. Why settle for shooting when you can roast a dimwitted pirate like a Christmas goose by luring him into a gas vent and lighting a match?

Observe the trailer for a glimpse of the intricate systems you'll encounter. Mimic pirate voices, fake your own death by purging yourself into space, and even flush a regenerating pirate's head down the toilet. Standard insurance procedure, indeed.

Built on the time-honored Doom 3 engine, Skin Deep exudes a "timeless look" according to Chung. After its initial announcement in 2018, the wait is finally over: Skin Deep launches on April 30th. A demo is available now on Steam.
