EA Plans to Revitalize Apex Legends with Major Update

EA's latest financial call revealed weaker-than-expected performance for Dragon Age: The Veilguard and EA Sports FC 25. Despite Apex Legends meeting expectations, net bookings declined year-over-year.

In response, EA CEO Andrew Wilson outlined plans to enhance the franchise. While previously denying an Apex 2.0, Wilson now acknowledges the need for a "more meaningful update" to the game experience. This update is expected to follow the release of the upcoming Battlefield title, tentatively scheduled for 2027 or later.

Wilson emphasized EA's long-term commitment to Apex Legends, believing it has the potential to become a decades-long franchise. He stated, "Our expectation is that Apex will... have an even bigger, more meaningful update... an Apex 2.0 if you will."

Live service games now account for 74% of EA's business, making the success of Apex Legends crucial. Wilson attributed Dragon Age: The Veilguard's underperformance to the removal of live service elements, emphasizing the importance of catering to players seeking shared-world features and deeper engagement.
