Octorok
Octoroks are the monsters that hide until they inhale. Water ones sit in ponds, forest ones sit in grass, rock ones sit in stone, and snow ones sit under snow. The inhale is the window: an arrow in the open mouth staggers them. A Treasure Octorok is the odd one, because it can spit a better weapon back at you.

The inhale, then the rock
Walk until you hear the suck. Do not stand on the line between you and the mouth, because the rock comes back out on that line. Step sideways, draw the bow, and loose when the mouth is open. A head-on block with a shield works once. The second rock usually comes while you are still recovering.
If it floats up on a balloon, cut the balloon and it falls. The compendium lists the same three parts for the water, forest, rock, and snow kinds: an Octorok balloon, an eyeball, and a tentacle. The balloon is the fuse people keep. The eyeball is a spare eye, not the Keese eyeball you use for homing.
Feed the treasure one a weapon
A Treasure Octorok inhales a weapon or a shield you drop in front of it, then spits that piece back with a new modifier. Drop one piece. If you drop a pile, it grabs something you did not mean to spend. A rusty sword is the usual feed. A weapon you like, with a rare horn already fused, is not.
The table puts Treasure Octoroks in the Gerudo Highlands and Faron Grasslands, and lists rupees with the balloon and the eyeball. The other four kinds do not repair gear. Kill those for the balloon, and save the walk to a treasure one for the sword you actually want rolled.
