Chuchu
Chuchus are blobs of jelly that bounce at you in fields, caves and sky islands. Fire, ice and electric ones match their color. A plain one becomes the element of the hit that kills it, so you can choose the jelly. The jelly is both an arrow fuse and a cooking ingredient. They are not worth a rare weapon.

Pick the element on purpose
If you need fire jelly, kill a plain Chuchu with a fire fruit arrow or a fire horn. Ice and shock work the same way. Killing an already elemental Chuchu with the opposite element can change the drop, so decide before the last hit. A stick or a rock is enough. Do not swing a royal weapon at a jelly.
Electric Chuchus in the rain shock you through a metal weapon and can throw the weapon out of your hands. Switch to wood, or shoot them. Fire Chuchus set grass alight under your feet. Ice ones freeze you into the next bounce. One clean hit from outside the bounce is the whole fight.
Jelly on arrows and in the pot
Fire jelly on an arrow lights torches, bomb flowers and wooden boxes. Ice jelly freezes an enemy for a shatter hit. Shock jelly stuns a wet group. These are the cheap versions of elemental fruits, and you should spend jelly before you spend the last fire fruit. In a pot, the same jelly adds an effect to food when the rest of the recipe supports it.
Large Chuchus split into smaller ones. Kill the small ones with the element you want, or the ground fills with the wrong jelly. They return with the Blood Moon in the same puddles and cave mouths. A minute with a spare spear restocks your elemental arrows for the next camp.
