Lynel
Lynels are the centaur fighters on the surface and in the Depths coliseums. A headshot staggers them so you can mount and land several hits that do not spend weapon durability. White and silver ones wear armor that blocks those hits until you break it. The horn and the bow are the reasons to fight one.

Headshot, then mount
Shoot the face with a strong bow. A Keese eyeball makes the arrow bend in if your aim is only close. When it drops to a knee, run in and press the mount button, then swing. Those mounted hits are the efficient part of the fight. Get off when the hits stop, because the next swing will throw you into a fireball or a slam.
Horizontal swings are backflips. Thrusts and overhead slams are side hops. A successful dodge opens a flurry rush, and those hits do spend durability, so use a weapon that can survive them. Do not stand in front of a three-shot bow. Move sideways the moment it draws. There is no ancient arrow in this game that deletes the body and the drops together.
Armor, horns and bows
On armored Lynels, blunt hits and bomb flowers crack the armor plates. Arrows into the armor pieces work too. Until the plate breaks, the mount combo bounces. After it breaks, the fight is the same headshot loop as a red one, with more health. Save this for when you have a decent bow and a stack of eyeballs.
Horns come in sword, spear and crusher shapes, and they fuse into that kind of weapon. A crusher horn on a sturdy handle is a hammer for Talus ore and armored enemies. Lynel hooves are another hammer fuse. The bow, especially a five-shot or three-shot one, is the drop you came for. Guts make strong elixirs. They return with the Blood Moon on the same fields.
